I had a reading in Kansas City last Saturday. Afterward, I had lunch with my friend Amy. We went to the Holy Land Cafe in Lenexa. I had the appetizer platter with pita bread. Mmmm. This wasn’t my first trip to the Holy Land. I was here once before. Here’s their website: Holy Land Cafe.
Bluestem Bistro
In Manhattan today, I had lunch at the Bluestem Bistro. Lots of great options on the menu: hummus, falafel, Greek salad. But the bierock and mixed greens salad won me over. It was all very good. The Bluestem Bistro is in Aggieville.
At the Strecker-Nelson
I had a glorious time Friday evening at the Strecker-Nelson Art Gallery. Jay and Barbara Nelson hosted a signing event for me and my book, Flyover People, at their downtown Manhattan gallery at 406 1/2 Poyntz. It’s fun to go to a different city and meet a whole new batch of people, and let me …
Toot’s
Dave and I were southbound today and our hungriness kicked in right before Howard, the county seat of Elk County. So, we stopped at Toot’s Drive-In. Dave had a double hamburger and fries. I haven’t had a burger since March, but had one today. It was a satisfying meal.

Studio 11, at 11 E. 4th in Emporia, is hosting a bake sale today to help out Reading residents. Reading was hit by an EF-3 tornado on May 21. Nearly every house in Reading suffered damaged. Quite a few were totally destroyed. The bake sale was planned by the kids of Studio 11. Money raised …
At Luigi’s
While attending the Kansas Sampler Festival in Leavenworth earlier this month, five of us found our way to Luigi’s Italian Restaurant for dessert, after having a delicious meal at Baan Thai. (There’s good food to be found in Leavenworth.) Luigi’s is at 700 Cherokee in Leavenworth. Cannolis, tiramisu, and…. … Limoncello. This limoncello with a …
Baan Thai
On Saturday evening, I looked down the Kansas Sampler Festival list of locally-owned restaurants in Leavenworth County and spotted Baan Thai. So, that’s where I headed. After I was seated, a group of Kansas Explorers/Sampler Foundation peeps came in and asked me to join them, so I had a great time. Unfortunately, when my red …
Dry Creek Buffalo Burgers
Dry Creek Buffalo Burgers of Wamego was one of the food vendors at the Kansas Sampler Festival this weekend in Leavenworth.
Do-B’s
There’s a new place in town. Late this afternoon Dave and I stopped by Do-B’s at 704 E. 12th in Emporia. Dave had the fried chicken po’ boy. Regina Murphy wrote about D0B’s in The Gazette the other day: Do-B’s does it right. And this, I had to bring half of that burger home, it …
Scones
I enjoyed chocolate chip scones and chai with a writer friend the other day. Mmm.
Delgado’s
Delgado’s in Great Bend. For decades, this building was the Old Trail Cafe. Delgado’s has been here a long time, but it’s only open on weekdays, so I had never been in. Had a chance to visit some time back when my mom and brother were in the area and I went to Great Bend …
