My friend Roger Heineken was featured in yesterday’s Gazette. He’s walking the original town site of Emporia, the first square mile of town, raising money to fight ALS, on behalf of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. Lou Gehrig was a Phi Delt as was William Allen White. So, Roger is walking the old streets of …
Pole Sit 2008
From 6 a.m. on Friday through noon today, the Phi Delta Theta fraternity is conducting their annual Pole Sit. Since 1985, they have raised more than $55,000 for S.O.S. (Services Offering Safety – for victims of domestic violence.) Basically, Phi Delts take turns sitting on that pole (!) and others collect money from kind folks …
The Rog
Tonight, our friend Roger Heineken received the University Service Citation from Emporia State University. Dave and I were honored to be guests of his. We were happy to meet members of Roger’s family and some of his many friends. I must have been out of my head because I didn’t have my pen and notepad …
Around Town 4.26.08
On my way to get gas and drop off some bills, I snapped a few photos around town. Here, ESU women are enjoying the warmish day. Tulips are blooming at 12th and Merchant. Streets are full of bicyclists. Gas is $3.47. I stopped by the Phi Delta Theta house to look at the landscaping now …
Another PDT Update
Because Flyover People has a large following of Phi Delta Theta-ers, here’s today’s update from their new house adjacent to the Emporia State University campus. The banner is new, just added today. The house looks a lot different with the big tree in front removed. The carefully crafted stone retaining wall is shaping up. For …
Phi Delt Update
Remember way back in November (OK, I don’t want to go there either), when I had photos of the Phi Delta Theta house being put together? If you want to refresh your memory… Landing a House. Well, the house is together (not totally finished, but together) and the guys have moved in. Now there is …
stonewalled
Stopped by the Phi Delta Theta house a few minutes ago to see if Rogerito was working on the stone retaining wall, but alas, he was not. The wall was there, however. And it looks like a very nice wall.
Phi Delt Update
Soon porch columns will be added to the Phi Delta Theta house near the ESU campus.
From San Francisco
Remember these guys from the other day? Phi Delts. Well, former Emporian Brian Protheroe, has been watching the progress of the Phi Delta Theta house on Flyover People, and writes this: A New Chapter For Our Chapter. I didn’t know Brian was a Phi Delt, or if I did know, I totally forgot, but anyway, …
Landing a House
In a story we’ve been following, today the Phi Delta Theta modular house is being put into place at 14th & Highland by KanBuild of Osage City. Here, the first of four units is being put in place with the help of a humongous crane and a few strong guys. While that is being done, …
Phi Delt House
My Numero Uno informant on Emporia happenings, Roger Heineken, said that the Phi Delta Theta house is on campus, awaiting conjoinment with the basement. So, being the diligent reporter/photographer that I am, off I went to check it out. Kan Build of Osage City is the builder. Destination. Fourteenth and Highland.
