Out with a broken foot, I missed all the nice markets in August and September, and now I just get the cold ones in October. It’s 42 degrees and chilly.

But, here’s Bob Karr selling apples and honey and cider. He said yesterday was probably the last bunch of school kids to tour The Orchard for the season. He gets about 20-30 tours each fall. In this last batch were youngsters from Reading school.

I bought some honey and a bag of Arkansas Black apples. He said if you need to throw a rock that an Arkansas Black was a pretty good substitute. It’s firm and tart, he said, and they have good staying power. They’d last till spring in the bottom of the fridge, he said.

The Conways had some interesting squash. I bought some green and Anaheim peppers here.

I entered the drawing for a gas power blower. Proceeds go to the Farmers Market. Blower and a mower were donated by PrairieLand Partners John Deere.
