By the time we got to Winfield on Saturday, I was hungry something fierce. Marci Penner had mentioned Biederman’s in The Guidebook for Kansas Explorers so we stopped there. When traveling, we choose local places, avoiding chain restaurants.

I had the hamburger and, yes, sweet potato fries – because I gotta have them. I really like honey with them, but here the fries were served with a secret sauce. I tried to guess what was in it, but failed. The waitress said (apparently it’s not a big secret) the sauce had sour cream, brown sugar and cinnamon. It tasted a little, um, different at first, but I grew to like it about halfway through the meal.

Dave had the chicken strip dinner.

In the front of the restaurant, as we walked in, a glass case was filled with pies and other tempting things, but I was full after my burger and had to pass up dessert.

BTW, shocking news story this week: Kansas tops 25 percent barrier in obesity report.

That’s why I work out – so I can have sweet potato fries, the occasional piece of pie, and keep my girlish figure.

Anyway, it was a nice atmosphere at Biederman’s Bistro, a pleasant dining experience.

  1. Well, I guess I found out where you ate. I knew that you chose local places, that was the reason I was anxious to find out.
That looks like a wonderful place to eat, if we were going that far.
A week or two ago, we had the same variety as you and Dave had – except ours was at Coaches. Their Chichen “Fingers” are so scrumptious. Except I had the sweet potato fries with mine – but green beans and everything just like Dave’s. Oh! HE had a roll – mine came with Texas toast. Their hamburger’s are good too.
Well, I guess we will have to scout for ourselves at El Dorado. Thanks anyway! Ha!

  2. I blogged about Biederman’s about a month ago. We stopped there after a trip down to Stillwater to pick ds up from wrestling camp. Isn’t it just the cutest little restaurant? Our food was fantastic, too. Winfield is such a pretty town.
