Our reward for sticking out winter.

  1. I am fine with Winter when the Earth sleeps. A good sleep is so important. Then I feel that thrill when the green stuff starts popping up. In Kansas we get such a glorious spring show. I love the cycles here.

I grew up and lived where it was pretty even cycles. If it got down to freezing, life as we knew it stood still. One time it got all the way down to 27 degrees three days in a row. Sent parts of Southern California into a tailspin. At either the arboretum or the Huntington library (I forgot which this happened at) there was this amazing cactus fence, very, very old. Very tall. Having 27 degrees three nights in a row killed that fence, sadly enough. Part of history down.

Plants that grow and even bloom year round in Southern California are annuals here in Kansas. For instance, geraniums.

I love the spring here in Kansas. The spring winds are merely the earth yawning loudly and fully after a long winter sleep. And the flowers and greenery are gifts to us for staying awake and standing guard while the Earth slept.

Just my take on a couple of seasons in Kansas.
