Freddy’s Custard & Steakburgers is now open in Emporia at 1400 W. 6th (formerly Popeye’s and before that, KFC). They opened today at 10:30 a.m. with at least 20 employees ready to serve.

Dave and I were their first in-store customers today.

Dave had the double-meat Patty melt combo.

I had the single steakburger combo. The sandwiches were good and we liked the thin crunchy fries.

  1. I love the Freddy’s fish sandwich. I used to order them in the El Dorado Freddy’s. BUt then one day I wanted one and they told me they were seasonal. Fish is seasonal?

Anyway, now that they are open, we’ll try it next time we are in Emporia at lunchtime.

  2. Millard went down at noon yesterday to pick up a couple of sandwiches for us. There was a line outside winding around. He didn’t get our sandwiches there.
I prefer frozen yogurt or ice cream too, but guess I will at least try their frozen custard.
What is the Chicago hot dog?

  3. We have a Freddy’s here and I’ve never even been there. For one thing, it’s out on Wanamaker where I don’t like to go.

You should try the custard at G’s Frozen Custard & Yogurt here in Topeka. It’s almost in my neighborhood. They’re in what I think used to be an A&W on W. 6th. Hours are shorter in the winter, but then they serve lunch (which I’ve never had). I recommend either the lemon or the brown bread custard. Might convert some of you non-custard lovers. But if not, they do have frozen yogurt, and they make all their own stuff fresh. Mmmm.

Oh, sorry, didn’t mean to turn this into an ad for someplace else. I should be fair and try Freddy’s. 🙂

  4. Thanks! I didn’t know they were open before reading this. We stopped by yesterday for lunch, or maybe it was dinner. 🙂 Pretty good burgers and the fries were hot and crispy.
