I had a chance to visit with Bob Karr of The Orchard at Saturday’s Farmers Market. Don’t remember what he was talking about here, but maybe it was his trip to Finland.

Since the weather can wreak havoc on his orchard, I asked him how the apples were coming along this year. “It’s a branch-breaking year,” he said. The branches are full, the apples are heavy.

The blackberries were $5 a pint and I brought this home.  Most were sweet, a few were a little tart.

And I brought home some yellow plums. They’re pretty darned good.

  1. Wow, those plums look tasty! I bought some (not yellow) ones last week at Topeka Farmers’ Market. They were a little tart but I can do tart. Would make great jelly.

The blackberries from Rees Fruit Farms have been amazing this year too.
