Ready to roll.

It was the Homegrown Celebration this morning at the Emporia Farmers Market, sponsored by ESB Financial, which is right nearby at 8th and Merchant.

Wonky watermelons.

After the littlest kids rolled watermelon, there was seed spitting for the next age group.

The older kids prepared for the watermelon eating contest.

Watermelon judge and chief of police Gary Smith points to the winner.

Ron Thomas of KVOE announced the event.

Meanwhile, Chuck Samples, also of KVOE radio, does a live interview with the new manager for the Farmers Market, Tracy Simmons.

Tracy is off to an energetic start on the job and has started a new Facebook page for regular market updates.

Tracy Simmons has recently replaced Tracey Graham, who is moving on to other endeavors, but Tracey Graham did a great job of keeping this market not only alive but thriving during recent uncertain years. So, yay to both Tracy and Tracey.

And thanks to ESB Financial for a fun morning at the market.
