Because Dave has a photography exhibit up in Cottonwood Falls, we’ve been hanging around that town a lot lately. A week ago, we had the chance to dine with some friends at the Grand Central Hotel.

The lighting was too dim in the restaurant for photography, but I had the blurry shrimp with blurry sugar snap peas. And it was good.

Dave had one of the steak dinners.

The last time I was in the Grand Central Hotel for a meal was 4-5 years ago and at that time I had the creme brulee – and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. So, I ordered some on this visit, too. It’s divine.

The best thing about the evening? Sitting next to this little wonder of a child. She’s 22 months, but she’s a tiny adult. Apparently she’s been speaking in complete sentences for a long time and she’s a bright conversationalist.

  1. My youngest dd and I had lunch there when we visited a few years ago. They make a great burger. (With blue cheese! Yum!) Lovely atmosphere, too. I’ve been wanting to take Danny ever since, maybe even stay in the hotel and have a little get away.

Speaking of great burgers, if you’re ever in the area, Stearman Field Bar and Grill in Benton has one of the best I’ve tried. Nice place for a cafe in a small town, too. You know, if you’re ever in the area. I know how you guys like to get around:o)

I think the Grand Central burger and the Stearman Field burger are the best I’ve had in Kansas, probably in my all-time top 5. Burgers are such a simple thing, and I think people take that for granted and assume all burgers are the same. Not so, my friend. There’s an art to producing the perfect burger: quality meat, hand pressed (never a frozen, pre-formed patty), well-seasoned, cooked patiently turning just once, not undercooked but still nice and juicy. It’s something you don’t find everywhere and certainly not at McDonald’s.

  2. I, too, LOVE the Grand Central Hotel! I’ve been there many times and have never been disappointed. …all that food is making me hungry….:-)
