Railroad Park

Railroad Park, Alma

This was a drive-by shot, so I’m not sure of the significance of the historic log cabin or why its called Railroad Park, but if you look over to the left of the cabin, there’s a cast iron caldron.

We had one of those caldrons in our backyard when I was a little twirp. It was handed down from my dad’s family.

My brother and I would happily wander around the yard and gather twigs to throw into the caldron when it was time for weiner roasts. We’d fill the caldron with tiny elm branches and set the wood ablaze. Hot dogs and gooey marshmallows.

  1. My grandmother had one something like that and she made soap in it. –and then put the bars of soap on a ladder–to dry?
