Not that anyone cares about this except me, but …
Exhibit A: The shoe I’ve been jumping rope with for the past year.
Note the 1/2-inch of sole sticking out the left side.
Exhibit B: New shoe I bought last Saturday and used during ill-fated jump-roping session on Sunday.
Note the smaller amount of sole sticking out the left side.
The shoes, sole-to-sole.
Now, one broken 5th metatarsal later, I realize that I tend to supinate (put my weight toward the outside of my foot). That extra bit of sole on the side of Shoe A kept me safe. Changing to a shoe with a less solid base caused my downfall. When I landed too far to the side, my foot bent under.
Moral of the story: good shoes matter.
Yes, good shoes do matter. Gotta figure out our limitations, then find a shoe that helps balance us out of that limitation.
I’ve done a lot of wooden shoe comparisons lately myself.
You’ve got clogging shoes, Roger.
A bit small to fit.
I love my New Balance shoes. They are good for keeping my old balance. 😀
They make shoes for people who supinate, over-pronate, and just plain walk. The only time I have shoe problems any more is when I have to find some that look OK with a dress!
Kris, that’s exactly when I have shoe problems. When I was going to church regularly, I just wound up wearing my sports shoes with dresses.
Now I’m worried. Those look exactly like the new shoes I just bought. Color and everything. I shall tread carefully.
