Laugh if you want to, but I love this thing, this saver-of-armpits.
After my first 24 hours with crutches, I had tender crutch ruts under my arms. Each step was sheer misery.
Then I remembered this contraption and asked my friend Jackie Lutz if I could borrow it. Her late mother had used this ambulatory aid. Jackie brought it over last night.
This is a dream machine. I can put my right knee on it and scoot around the house. Or I can sit in it and push myself around.
No more crutching in the house, no more wildly dangerous one-leg hopping. This makes my life SO much easier. Thanks, Jackie!
Good to see you are getting more mobile. Those things are great. We had one when the wife fell off a ladder and broke… a lot of stuff.
HOWEVER… as the PT pointed out, be sure you have your hands where you can squeeze the brakes if you need to. Otherwise you could end up doing a really uncomfortable split, or worse
I guess you could say you are home on the range…a much more circumscribed range than you are used to in your typical sphere of activity.
When you use crutches, they shouldn’t touch your armpits. Your hands should support your weight, not your armpits. If the crutches are not sized appropriately, it leads to ouchy pits!
Thanks, Heather. Obviously I’m an AMATEUR.
At any rate, this thing lets me sit and roll while carrying food or drinks. Or I can put a plate of food (or books, etc) on the seat and push.
ha!! Well, that is a good thing..I think. Means you haven’t had to use them too much!! I only know this from experience….I broke the same bone when I was 17 and got deep purple bruises on my armpits before someone told me how to use them appropriately!
Hope you get to feeling better.
Hmm, I think we need a picture of Cheryl manuevering around in her special chair. Dave…can you hook us up??
You know, I don’t think that’s necessary! 🙂
That would make a spectacular “Emporia Photo of the Day”!
Told ya so!
What a perfect contraption for Kansas! Why, since there aren’t any hills or topography to speak of, you can wheel across the entire state!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, my friend.

OH, that’s a wonderful contraption. I used one (without wheels) when I had my knee surgery. If I ever need one again, I want one with wheels.
Glad you thought of this. Mobility is so important to keeping the spirits high.
Easier, yes. But much less entertaining for the rest of us.
So I guess if Cheryl has her way we won’t be seeing photos of her racing up and down the driveway, or even parading with Tiger, Milo, and Zorro. What a shame!
Paint racing stripes on it and it’ll go faster!
