Overlooking Pawnee Rock, Kan.

John (Cougar) Mellencamp was the inspiration for my radio commentary today on Kansas Public Radio: Born in a Small Town.

  1. Love it, love it! Really, Mellencamp knows nothing of a small town life compared to our experiences. Come to Kansas buddy, we’ll show you small towns.

  2. My heart fell in love with that small town again. I know I’m just melancholy, but is it any wonder? We had a good life, very pure, and very simple. Life seemed so easy there in that small town. So what if I knew everyone. Is there something so wrong about that? Shouldn’t it be that’s what’s so right about living in a small town? I live in a big city and I don’t even know my next door neighbors. There is nothing personal in the big city, and that’s why there is no soul in a big city.

I appreciate your stories about your visits to small towns, Cheryl. Thanks for giving credit and recognition to people and places that are otherwise forgotten.
