There’s food at the Farmers Market, but there are also friends – people I haven’t seen since last fall. Like Jim Wallace of Lebo! He’s looking good and healthy. Marilyn was here last week (but I wasn’t).
Jim sells fresh eggs of the brown variety. And beef of the lean variety. And buffalo and sausage ….
Well, here’s Jim’s price list. It’s nice to see a price list at the market, so you don’t have to ask.
Emporia Dance was having a fund-raiser, selling biscuits and gravy, etc.
It was a cold morning (50 degrees) which no one expected after the steamy 80-something we had yesterday.
A family sells marshmallow treats, carmeled popcorn and lotion.
Where was Rand? I don’t know, but here’s today’s cutest-person-at-the-market.
Rand missed all the fun by going to work this morning. Good to see you, even if briefly while we shivered!
Had it not been for “eggs & issues” and quilting, I’d been there!
I just noticed this morning that my rhubarb plants that I planted last year (and got lost in the weeds….) are growing! I don’t think you can eat the first year’s rhubarb? –does anybody know?
By way of comparison a dozen eggs at a farmer’s market here in NYC cost me $3.50 this morning.
Kansas, land of cheap eggs and cheap parking (downtown rate for parking is 2 hours for a dime – and people complain about having to feed the meters!)
The downside is that we don’t have MOMA or Central Park or the Guggenheim or Broadway…
There was another good crowd again this Saturday. It ended earlier than the first market and there were two fewer vendors but that may indicate a solid trend. Arrive, shop (getting what you came for), visit, leave in 20 minutes and enjoy the balance of your Saturday after a dose of social.
Last year gross sales were just over $74,000. I am predicting $120,000 this year based on what we are seeing already. Two years ago the market grossed $54,000. Trend!
