OK, my camera is a great camera, but I don’t always take good pictures.
Sometimes it’s the room, sometimes it’s the lighting, or the distance from the subject – especially with a flash. Whatever. I’m actually pretty good at taking bad pictures.
So what I’m saying is – I didn’t get a usable photo of Kevin Rabas reading from his new book Bird’s Horn. But I enjoyed hearing him read his poetry. Great stuff.
There was a good-sized and appreciative crowd at the reading at the Sauder Alumni Center this evening.
Accompanying him and playing after his reading were Jorge Ballester and Filomeno Ballumbrosio:
Ballumbrosio is from Peru. I’m not sure where Ballester is from; he teaches at ESU.
Cool! Where are they from? With names like that surly they aren’t native Kansans. That would have been neat to hear.
Jorge teaches physics. I don’t know where he’s from. He’s a super nice guy. I had no idea he played music!
Jorge is from Puerto Rico by way of Miami.
Jorge collects antique slide-rules and has an interest in the intersection of Physics and cuisine like el Bulli in Spain.

I saw a piece on el Bulli on the Food Channel a couple weeks ago. THAT’S where we need to go for an FOP get-together.
And I don’t care what Cheryl says – she’s a great photographer.
