Welcome to Iola (pop. 6,008), the county seat of Allen County.
I’ve been through Iola a number of times. This is the route (US54) that I used to take to visit my aunt and uncle when they lived in Southern Missouri.
I’ve always liked Iola. It’s a sweet and charming town with a hospital and an A&W Restaurant. We were starving and stopped there for burgers and frosty mugs of A&W Root Beer. There’s not much better in the world than a mug of root beer.

We found Lyman Baldwin washing windows downtown. That’s his only job and he enjoys doing it. Here he’s at the Party Girls storefront, a party/catering service.

We live closer to Iola than we do Emporia———& I do a lot of my shopping there!!!!!!!!!!
We like the town & enjoy shopping there!
I sold my classic VW Bug to one of the girls that owns an antique shop there—–& we have become friends & we eat lunch together when ever we can/ that I’m over there shopping!
There are many really nice antique shops there in town & a couple of large flea markets or more in town!
We really enjoy the town & the people are friendly & nice & remember you when you shop there!
I’ve only driven through Iola. One day I’ll have to stop and take a look. I think I did have lunch there, if i’m not mistaken, at the edge of town someplace in a Subway? Could that be it?

It has some very interesting businesses!!!!!!!!!
They just put in a new Walmart Super store there——- & took the fabric department out of the store when they “improved it”——-but between LeRoy & Iola there is a fabric store out in the middle of the countryside! And a Quilt shop—– I have not stopped there yet——–but I plan on it soon!!!!!!! I’m sure they have some material I can’t live without!!!!!!
Hubby & I have —had it come over us & we could not control it & we have had to drive to Iola for a frosty mug of A & W!!!
One night Hubby called to see what time they closed & to see if we could drive there before they closed to get root beer floats!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
We dove over there & next to us/ was the couple who bought my classic VW bug!!!!!!! 🙂
We sat there & visited for an hour or longer after the A & W closed!!!!!!!!
We enjoy going there —–& enjoy shopping there!
I have yet to run into rude people there——-each time I go to Emporia shopping I think to myself——-& I drive here & give these people money to be rude to me!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
I don’t remember in all the 100 years of shopping in Emporia the people being as rude as they seem to be anymore!!!!!!!!!!
We went to Emporia today & wrote out a check for over $300.00 at one store & figured on the way home we dropped about $450.00 in town today & each place we were treated rudely!!!!!!
Hubby said——–why did we do that———next time I’m going to where people appreciate our business & want it & treat us with some form of respect!
Next time Iola will get our money/ instead of Emporia!!!!!!!!!!
