I did not notice it before you asked! I will do some research (in other word ask an “old timer”) and will post an answer. By the way, sorry for the long link description that seems to overlap your wordpress blog template.
After the Greensburg Tornado it seems like our population increased by at least 10%. Some are displaced Greensburg folks but most of the newcomers are disaster relief workers.
I enjoy reading “Flyover People” because I am one! ( and I REALLY like the way you capture the essence of Kansas places and people too).
I think I saw that the current Pratt County Courthouse was built in 1926 or some time like that. Lyon county has had four purpose-built courthouses over the years. Probably one reason Lyon County taxes are so high. I think in the first year or two it occupied space in another building.
You don’t say if it is in Kansas.
What, you think I’d throw in an “outsider” courthouse?
Would I do that????
No, this is definitely in Kansas.
The spruce was suspect.
I can’t explain the spruce. It was just there. In Kansas.
West entrance of Butler County court House in El Dorado???????????
Nope, not Butler County.
It is the front of the Pratt County Courthouse.
Spruce tree and all.
Good job, Roger! That’s right. It’s the Pratt County Courthouse in Pratt.
See a slightly older picture of the Pratt County Courthouse at

That’s neat.
They changed the top of the courthouse at some point in time. Took off the sloped roof and the statue.
Do you know if the statue is still around somewhere?

It’s good to have your input, miltm. I’m glad you joined in. 🙂
No big deal on the long link. Thanks for sharing the photo.
P.S. Pratt was bigger than I had expected. I hadn’t been there for a long time.
I loved the Servateria (I think that’s the name) sign/business on US54. I took a photo of that.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too – how Lyon County has had several courthouses in about the same time period that Pratt County had ONE courthouse.
A Pratt citizen informed me that the statue (and top floor) was destroyed in a fire, but not sure of the date.
A fire. That would explain the changes. At least the rest of the building was saved.
So – how many people did you have to ask before you found someone who knew the answer?
