This picture may be a little fuzzy because the lens fogged up. Greenhouse No. 2 at Arnold’s was giggly hot and humid on Sunday when the outside world was cold.

But, things have changed. Spring has come to the prairieland.

Monday was glorious – no wind, sunshine, no wind, mid-60s, no wind. And I mention the no wind on purpose, you know. Because it’s a rarity and when there is no wind, we feel it. When there is no wind, the warm sunshine settles all the way down to earth. When there is no wind, we are not distracted or annoyed.

My regular gas station – Lakeview 66 has closed. I started buying gas there in the mid-’80s. Back then the station was prone to robberies, including the shots-fired, clerks-severely-injured kind. Still, I went there.

Lakeview 66 not only had gas, but a car wash. And AIR. Air! You wouldn’t think air is hard to come by, but it is.

Anyway, the car wash is still operating, but no gas, no air there anymore.

Yesterday, I bought gas elsewhere. I pumped the gas and went in the convenience store to pay for it. Twenty seconds I was in that store and I came out smelling like I’d smoked two packs of cigarettes in a car with the windows rolled up. Geesh. And, they don’t have air.

Air can be found, for free, at S&S, but that’s way the heck out of my way to most anywhere I go.

  1. We bought a little air pump years ago and Larry does it with that usually.

I imagine that station you are going to is where we used to have the same complaint, coming out smelling like cigarettes.

We usually go to Casey’s in Madison now.

Yesterday was absolutely magnificent. I hope this will last!

  2. I usually go to the KWIK shop catty-corner from ESU because they will subtract 2 cents off a gallon if you use your Dillon’s card and, when you spend $100 at Dillons, you get a 10 cents off a gallon coupon. One time, just lately, when the price was 2.49, I drove right by–looking for someplace cheaper!!
The BEST thing about gas stations is that by using your credit/debit card you don’t HAVE to go inside! I love that, but always wish that was available when I had little kids in the car.
