It was chocolate, this cake made by Mrs. Reeble. (Well, Reeble’s Country Mart baked it, not Mrs. Reeble herself.) I’ll bet William Allen White never imagined his photo to be printed – in frosting – on a birthday cake. Today was the 139th anniversary of his birth.
Roger Heineken of the William Allen White Community Partnership said that 70 visitors toured the White Historic Site today, including folks from Osage City, Lawrence, Overland Park, Prairie Village and Waverly.
Thanks, Cheryl. I have a lot of confection for William Allen White.
Aw, that’s sweet.
And good ol’ WAW must think a lot of you, too, Roger. You’ve done so much to make that man real. It’s all the little stories, the personal stories you tell about him that bring him to life.
I was glad I got there and took the picture before someone cut up his face. That’s the downside to having your face on a cake.
At 4:30 there was one piece left out of 50. White was always a great host. This was a communion of sorts.
