This was a vendor I visited at the Kansas Sampler Festival which was held in Leavenworth a week ago. Twice. I know I should’ve tried the other food vendors (grilled chicken! BBQ!), but I just don’t get to eat bierocks very often.

Yeah, I know, I can make them myself, but mine turn out looking like this…

The bierock on the upper right was mine. I know. How pathetic is that? It’s not Elebrown’s fault (Ele taught this bierock-making class a few years ago), I’m just a total failure at some things. (Not that there’s anything wrong with being a total failure at some things.)

Becky’s menu.

Made from healthy stuff!

Use the napkin for scale. That’s a regulation-sized napkin.

And inside, a perfectly formed bierock!

Here, check out how Becky and the gang make bierocks up in St. Francis: From our kitchen to your plate.

I went with the German sausage (as opposed to the hamburger & cheese kind.) Obviously they were very good, since I went back on Sunday after having the first one on Saturday.

  1. I asked the workers at the booth – and they said many Dillons’ carry these. And they thought Emporia Dillons store does. I think they might be in the frozen foods area, but not for sure on that.

  2. Bierocks? I can only echo J Fish, but louder:

    I * W A N T * ONE. No, make that two if Iā€™m hungry, and then a few for the freezer.

Never heard of these things before. Like a crisp Cornish Pasty? Whatever, I’m on the case.

  3. We always make a whole mess of ‘rocks in the winter because they do indeed freeze beautifully. @englishblo – it’s a Volga German thing. Attend an oktoberfest in northwest Kansas and you’re sure to get your fill.

  4. OK next time I’m over Cheryl I demand these – and the dried meat stuff! We’ll provide all the pasties you can eat once you’re over here.
