Frank Borman’s spacesuit is on display at the Cosmosphere. Borman commanded Apollo 8. Gloves worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
Odyssey
Now, for me, the way coolest thing in the Cosmosphere was this: The Odyssey. The Apollo 13 Command Module. Yes! OK, before going to a place, I seldom do research. I like being taken by surprise. Now, I had heard that the Liberty Bell 7 capsule, flown by Gus Grissom, was in the museum …
Gemini Titan II
OK, there was room enough inside the Cosmosphere for a full-scale space shuttle replica, an SR-71 spyplane and a T-38 training jet, but that Gemini Titan ballistic missile – it had to go outside. Plus, a rocket adds curb-appeal to the museum.
we got grain
Yo – the world’s largest grain elevator is in Hutchinson. I didn’t measure it, but reportedly the elevator is 1/2 mile long.
Space Shuttle
Built into the lobby wall of the Cosmosphere is this full-scale model of the shuttle Endeavour.
Ad Astra Per Aspera
Who can tell where we went today? Yes, Janet, that’s correct. Dave and I went to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. With the cold weather, it was a good place to take indoor photos. This was a place that has long been on our list. I was reminded of the Cosmosphere a couple weeks ago when …

Kansas Castle
Cool, huh? Who knew we had a castle? Unless otherwise noted, photos on the Daily News page are mine. But it was Dave who took this photo. While in Junction City earlier this week, he visited a castle. Check out the photos on Postcards from Kansas.
Toad Hollow Slide Show
Remember spring? Yeah, well, it’s coming soon to a garden near you. Especially if you live near Emporia and Toad Hollow. Anyway, I took the above shot, but Dave has reconfigured his Toad Hollow photos into a cool-o slide show. Check it out, Dude.
Itsy bitsy plants
At Arnold’s Greenhouse near LeRoy, they had a field’s worth of plants under a humongous roof. And this is just one little corner of the main greenhouse. There are 7-8 smaller greenhouses, too.
BETO Junction
We set out wandering today and stopped at BETO Junction (in Coffey County, at the I-35, US-75 Junction.) This is a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. The nearest town is Lebo, maybe 8 miles away. BETO stands for the four major towns in the four directions. Burlington to the south, Emporia – west, …
