A couple weeks ago at Eastside Park, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe engine pulled in a few boxcars from Bunge to do a switcheroo. I do miss the old blue and yellow Santa Fe engines, but I have to admit, these orange dudes are pretty sharp looking. It’s so clean – it looks like a …
Then and Now
February, 2006. Eastside park in Emporia. One lonely swing set under a tree. Now there’s a playground. And over yonder to the west is a shelter house (not in picture.) And now, an obelisk. But the memorial isn’t finished yet. More to be done with this. Roger has recorded the obelisk in process, step-by-step.
Obelisk
This is a miniature of the proposed obelisk that Alan Tollakson will be carving for Eastside Memorial Park. The hand will be a theme in the overall memorial which will include the obelisk.

On my way to get gas and drop off some bills, I snapped a few photos around town. Here, ESU women are enjoying the warmish day. Tulips are blooming at 12th and Merchant. Streets are full of bicyclists. Gas is $3.47. I stopped by the Phi Delta Theta house to look at the landscaping now …

Eastside Park Update
The concrete floor is in place and a boy on a bike rides in circles.
Eastside Park Update
Drove past yesterday evening (9th & East in Emporia) and most of the red roof of the shelter house is in place.
Eastside Park Update
I drove past the Eastside Park shelter house Friday night. The red roof is being installed.
Eastside Park Update
I drove past the shelter house last night. The wooden roof (ceiling) looks to be completed.
Eastside Park Update
Wooden planks create what will be the ceiling for the shelter house at Eastside (Is it East Side or Eastside?) Memorial Park. A metal roof will cover the wood. Teamwork. One guy cuts wood, the other hammers it into place. The Eastside Park is at Ninth and East Streets in Emporia.
