Today my brother, Leon, wrote about our dad: Elgie Unruh, a man of Pawnee Rock.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church, 601 S. Patton Rd., Great Bend, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, on Friday evening from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. The family will be present from 6 – 8 p.m.

Memorials for the Barton County Historical Society may be sent in Elgie Unruh’s name to Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, Kansas 67530.

  1. I never had the honor of meeting your father, but in the accounts you and Leon wrote, I saw my father who went to be with Jesus 7 years ago. I’m sure he’s waiting to make your dad’s acquaintence, both in their overalls and ready to swap stories of life on a farm and a small town. You both are in our hearts and prayers as you say, “we’ll see you later dad”.

  2. Cheryl, I don’t think you could have picked a better photo to go with this post. What a neat guy he must have been. I truly was touched by Leon’s essay, and have been touched by your posts and pictures. I feel like I know him a bit now.

  4. I watched the photo tribute that the funeral home shared of your father. I loved all the pictures, but this photo was my favorite. This is certainly a “keeper” and should be framed.
