Barbara Waterman-Peters – now that’s a name I keep running into in galleries and online. And Monday, I finally met the artist. She was in SouthWind Gallery in Topeka yesterday afternoon. Barbara, who is from Topeka, was there with her award-winning painting from Sunday’s Ensley Gardens competition.
Normally, I’m not a fan of clowns, but I’m really taken in by Barbara’s clowns.
Gary Blitsch, gallery owner, holds Deb Schroer‘s first place painting. Schroer is from Strong City.
And then Judith Sabatini, a Topeka photographer, came in to get some of her new – and gorgeous – photographs framed. Every time I’ve been in SouthWind Gallery, I’ve met one, two, sometimes three artists. It’s a great place to hang out.
I was at SouthWind yesterday to drop off more Flyover People books. As long as I was going to be in that direction, I also made the rounds to bookstores in Lawrence and restocked their shelves.
Rainy Day Books, Fairway
And, as long as I was close, I took a spin up to Kansas City and left some with Rainy Day Books, 2706 W. 53rd in Fairway. So, if you live in the K.C. area and want a book, that’s where you can find them.
There is so much more art in Kansas right now than most people realize. Here in Topeka there is a real resurgence going on, and I wish I could experience more of it! I really do need to be retired, instead of just tired.
