Last Wednesday, I was in the Capitol building and so I stopped by to visit with Roy Bird, Director of the Kansas Center for the Book, about the various projects he has going on. He is one busy guy, spreading the joy of reading to as many Kansans as he can. Here he is, standing next to a display of the 2010 Kansas Notable Books.

I saw Bird again on Friday at the Kansas Notable Book Awards at which he and the State Librarian, Joanne Budler, handed out medals to the winners.

Today’s column will be about that ceremony, but I also hope to write more about the other projects that the State Library and the Kansas Center for the Book are working on for our benefit.
