Kevin Rabas with his Kansas Notable Book Award medal.

Medallions were handed out to authors of 15 books this afternoon at the Kansas Capitol in Topeka. The Kansas Notable Book Awards are given by the State Library of Kansas and the Kansas Center for the Book. Congratulations to Kevin (who wrote a blurb for my book) and to all the recipients.

Kevin Rabas won the award for his book Lisa’s Flying Electric Piano. He is the co-director of the Creative Writing Program at Emporia State University, and a jazz percussionist – in addition to being an award-winning poet.

When introducing Kevin, Roy Bird, Director for the Kansas Center for the Book, held up a copy of Lisa’s Flying Electric Piano, and said,  “Denise (Low, former Kansas Poet Laureate) was impressed with this poetry. I was impressed with this poetry. I’m very pleased to have Kevin Rabas as one of our Notable Book authors.”

  1. Cheryl, Many thanks for coming and covering this. It’s a great honor. I love your book, and I hope you’re standing up there next year. Either way, what you have made will last. Folks, go get Cheryl’s book: *Flyover People*. It’s wonderful. If you like her columns, you’ll love the book. Here’s to Kansas literature!
