Henry Leiker (Dave’s father) served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. An American flag is presented to Henry’s wife, Clara, by a sergeant with the Honor Guard from Ft. Riley.
This flag is presented on behalf of a grateful nation and the United States Army as a token of appreciation for your loved one’s honorable and faithful service.
“Greatest Generation” comes to mind as I think of Henry, but also Clara and Dave and his sister and all the family. The passing of my parents brought my three brothers and me closer together than we had been before. Life…and death can shape perceptions of what is important as we all progress on the journey.
