Today at the Kansas Sampler Festival, we ran into Dave Kendall of KTWU.

Many of you know him as the voice and face of Sunflower Journeys (Thursdays at 7 p.m./Saturdays at 5 p.m. on KTWU.)

Dave Kendall is such a nice guy. He really is as kind in person as he seems on TV.

Anyway, even though I taunted him, threatening to take over his job – since I now do video/documentaries myself (I received a Flip camcorder for my birthday last week), he was STILL KIND ENOUGH to deliver a video promo for me about some important programs on KTWU (and all Kansas public television stations) this week…

Nicely said, Dave. (One take! He’s a pro.)

So, yes, tune in to Channel 11, Wednesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. as KTWU  airs “Food, Inc.” From KTWU’s viewer guide: ‘Food, Inc.’ takes the position that a highly mechanized and centralized food production system creates many unnatural problems: sick animals, environmental degradation, tainted and unhealthy food and obesity.

At 9 p.m., following the airing of “Food, Inc.” watch “Taking Stock: Perspectives on Food Production in Kansas.” KTWU will present an informed panel of Kansas agriculture leaders in a locally-produced community affairs program. Listen to their reactions to the film “Food, Inc.” and watch this opportunity for diverse perspectives to be explored.

This strong cross-section of qualified agricultural professions will include Secretary of Agriculture for the state of Kansas – Josh Svaty; the president of the Kansas Farm Bureau- Steve Baccus; the director of the Kansas Rural Center – Dan Nagengast; the president of the Kansas Livestock Association – Mark Smith; the coordinator of a cooperative called “Good Natured Family Farms” – Diana Endicott; and former Kansas Governor, John Carlin, a visiting professor in the political science department at K-State. The program is hosted by Kelly Lenz, Agricultural Director AM 580 WIBW radio.

These programs will be broadcast on all of the Kansas public TV stations on Wednesday, beginning at 7 p.m.

  1. Sunflower Journeys is one of my favorite shows! I’ll try to remember to watch Wednesday night. Food? what could be better?

  2. I’d like to see these, but we don’t get tv programing anymore. We canceled it. Will this be shown online?

Living where I do has nearly turned me into a vegetarian.

  3. Janet, “Food Inc.” is available at the Emporia Public Library, or can be rented from video stores. I’m checking to see if KTWU has plans to post their locally-produced program online after the show airs.

  4. OK, Janet, and anyone else who won’t be able to tune in on Wednesday, Dave Kendall says they are now available on itunes u.

To watch the local KTWU program online, go to http://ktwu.org/ – and AT THE VERY, VERY BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, on the white tab at the bottom, it has Twitter, Facebook, some musical notes. CLICK ON THE MUSICAL NOTES. That will take you to an Itunes page (I hope… maybe you have to already be an itunes user…?)

Then click on the Taking Stock icon and it will lead you to a page where you can download (for free) Part 1 and Part 2 of the show.

  5. Are those the videos that were shown at the Tech College a few weeks ago? I went to one and had to leave!

  6. This is a Progressive Republican issue of a time gone by. WAW would be typing up a storm over this issue, probably asking “What’s the matter with Kansas.”
