  1. Thanks, Cheryl! There are lots of moon photos further back in there, too, but somehow they are all a bit different.

Chris–there are several factors that matter a lot in taking moon pictures. One of them is how dark the sky is in relation to the moon, and whether you have a camera that you can fully adjust the exposure and metering on. Another is good zoom capability, and always a tripod. Even with all the practice I’ve had, if I can’t balance exposure and the other factors, I can end up with a big circle surrounded by blackness, too.

  2. Kris – I recently purchased a new camera that will do all that. I’m trying to learn how to use it. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and I’m making progress. I played around with it and got some that were ok. I have a tripod but I wouldn’t call it a good one.

  3. The thing with tripods is, make sure it’s sturdy enough that it won’t tip over with your camera on it! That’s my worst nightmare. I got a medium-duty one on sale at Best Buy, and it’s been fine for my not-extremely-heavy camera.
