Thanksgiving

As is their Thanksgiving tradition, the members of the Church of Christ in Emporia put on a feast for anyone who wants it. There’s no donation bucket – it’s an annual service the church provides to the community.

Our family Thanksgiving Dinner is later this weekend, so Dave and I dropped by the church to join in on the fun.

We were greeted at the door by a gentleman and then again by Marjory Scrivner. Everyone is cheerful and welcoming here. And it’s a good meal.

The pie was great, but also incredibly delicious was the mashed sweet potato dessert with pecans on top.

Dave and I sat at a table with a guy who I recognized as one of the Salvation Army bell ringers, so we learned about bell ringing. Some of their shifts are 6 and 8 hours. That’s a long time to stand on your feet out in the cold – so next time you see one of the bell-ringers, give them a smile when you toss some cash into the little red bucket.

  1. I love community dinners like this. I actually, secretly wanted to go, too, so thanks for giving me a sneak peak. Thanks for the plug for Salvation Army, my favorite charity. I used to say, I’ll donate on the way out the door after I get my change, but then I had my hands full and just wanted to get home. Now I donate on the way in the door, no excuses. G:-)
