Cedar Point - Robert Collins

Author Robert Collins passed through Cedar Point yesterday and sent in this lovely photo of the mill surrounded by autumn colors.

old mill sign - Robert CollinsAs you can see from the photo, the mill is not structurally sound. I don’t know if that’s the reason for the desperate sign or if demolition is planned. (Here are photos I took last November.)

If you feel moved to help save the old mill, there are the numbers to call.

Robert Collins also sent along his schedule of book signings. Robert writes about Kansas history, railroads, as well asĀ  some fantasy/science fiction.

Here’s his November schedule:
Sat., Nov. 7, Andover Public Library, 10 AM
Sat., Nov. 14, Augusta Public Library, 10:30 AM
Thu., Nov. 19, Butler County History Center, 7 PM

  1. The stonework is showing many faults, but the old mill has a formidable infrastructure of thick old beams that’s holding it up. It’s amazing how it continues to stand up against the power of the river.

  2. Least Heat-Moon wrote a little about this mill in “PrairyErth”. While on the way to visit our daughter once when she was attending K State, we stopped by Cedar Point and walked around this old mill. Dave’s right, the infrastructure is formidable, and there is a lot of machinery still inside that could be brought back to life with some work. I hope some thing can be done to save this bit of history.
We’ve had the extremely good fortune to have had someone take an interest in the Old Oxford Mill and it has been brought back from the brink of ruin and is now serving as a venue for an entrepreneurship program for high school and community college students in the area wanting to learn about the restaurant/food-service business.
