It’s a spectular year for sunflowers. Especially for the common sunflower, my favorite. Most years, we get ditch-fuls of the Maximilian sunflower, an inferior branch of the helianthus family. I like the dark centers and the individual stems of the common variety.
The yellow petals have been so bright this year, they just beam in the sunshine.
Sunflower Haiku:
Sunflower chases
light. Bends head down for the night,
waits for morning sun.

I was just thinking this driving on South Street – loaded with sunflowers!
