In October, 1867, peace treaties were signed between the U.S. government and five Plains Indian tribes. This statue, in front of the Medicine Lodge Middle School, recognizes that event.

May I add a recommendation for the tri-annual (every third year) Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Pageant? The historical pageant is played out on a forty acre stage within a natural ampitheatre created by the red bluffs. It’s colorful, entertaining, and a good history lesson. The weekend event also features parades, live musical entertainment on the main street, an Indian encampment and dancing demonstrations, the Kansas State Ranch Rodeo Championship, carnival, etc. Every Kansan should visit this event at least once!
I’d love to see that. Looks like the next one is in 2011. http://www.peacetreaty.org/
