I drove over to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve near Strong City this morning to see what the Park Rangers have going on this spring and summer.  Starting April 25, they have a special event nearly every weekend.

Fun for the kids!

Fun for adults!

Free!

Absolutely – everything is free. Even the bus tours of the backcountry – is now free.  See Dave’s photos. We took the bus tour in the fall, but I’d love to get out on those open pastures in the springtime.

April 25 is Junior Ranger Day, from 9-noon. The event is described in their brochure as a “Fun-filled day of Junior Ranger activities, including a Leave No Trace Scavenger Hunt. Earn a patch, badge and certificate from park rangers.”

The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is only like 25 minutes from Emporia. Here’s a map and directions.
