As a kid, I remember seeing the ads on a Wichita TV station for Fisher’s Transmission.
I wouldn’t remember it except for their catchy jingle: “Your transmission giving you trouble, take it to Fisher’s on the double – the one with the upside down sign.”
Fisher’s is on East Douglas in Wichita.
P.S. How come no one says “on the double” anymore?
re: ‘on the double’ Could it be because now it seems to refer to price more often than speed?? Nah, probably not, since I remember when a bottle of coke was a nickle.
We are too far from World War II and a universal military experience. I’m sure the expression is derived from the military.
I’m sure Roger is right. The military was downsized in the 80s, and we don’t emphasize it like we used to.
Remember Phil Silvers in the Sgt. Bilko show?
