The wearing of the plaid. Bagpipers warm up before the parade today in downtown Emporia.
Hundreds lined Commercial Street on this calm day with temps in the mid-50s.
There were the usual entries – guys on tractors, Shriners in little cars, antique vehicles, kids walking, kids on bikes.
There was a military presence.
The 4-H kids came prepared with green 4-leaf clovers. How Irish is that. There’s Maranda and Maddie and Evie.
Wild women on horseback.
A green horse. Of course.

The tail end of the parade.
I think that first picture is a man and his son from here in Topeka, though I don’t know their names. They are either from here or spend a lot of time here. I’ve seen them in Lola’s Cafe Espresso (my favorite coffee haunt) quite a bit, and they were at the Scottish Fest in Lawrence a while back.
There are bits of Ireland, Scotland AND England in my blood…I should be fighting with myself all the time!
