That looks SO familiar to me inside. Maybe it was the art of the time or something, but I felt like I’d seen that before.
I looked up children’s cookbooks on ebay, just to see what would pop up. There were 3 or four children’s cookbooks, from the 50’s.
I imagine it was a thing back then.
That Boys and Girls cookbook was copyright 1957. I turned 12 at the end of that year, so that book would not have been one I had. I was losing interest in cooking when I was 12, gaining interest in boys and clothes and pleading to wear lipstick.
Oh yes, and shave my legs. I wanted to shave my legs so bad, and my parents wouldn’t let me.
But then one day I wanted to wear a really tight skirt, way too tight. My parents were appalled, big fight.
My mother finally called me into her bedroom and said that I could shave my legs. I later asked her why. She said I was growing up and she needed to let me do things that were reasonable, while stopping me from doing harmful things.
Today I hate to shave my legs. They get shaved on special occassions, like my children’s weddings and gynecologist visits.
