… that my head was stuffed and my nose was sore, that my lungs were coughed out, or that I had only, finally, fallen asleep at two in the morning, Tiger said, “It’s my job…. At 3 a.m., I must. wake. a. human.”

  1. Oh dear, I hope you feel better very soon Cheryl. Nasty cold going around I guess.

Yes, cats seem to have an inborn duty to do a bed check in the wee hours. They must walk on your body, maybe check your breathing by standing on your chest or abdomen or putting a wet nose against your nose to check for air going in and out.

  2. I have no Tiger, but the rest? I’ve been there for going on two weeks. I’m better but not best. Tylenol cold and sinus and Comtrex. At the worst part- both at the same time. Getting actual sleep helps immensely. Oh and Benedryl and Nyquil.

  3. Really sorry to hear that others are getting that bug. I basically missed Fall as when the cold was done, bronchitis set in for another 2 weeks. At least the cats do check (in the early AM as noted). ((Could they be checking to see if we have turned into ‘food’ yet??))
Do take care and check with your Dr. if it lasts beyond the standard ‘cold’ time!

  4. Colds & flu seem to be making their rounds this year——-Hubby & I both had a round with a cold this year & we both seldom get colds——-
But one of the singers from our church hugged me——& she had a bad cold—& with in hours– I had it——& I shared it with Hubby!!!!!!!

Roger 19 degrees——- yesterday it was 75 degrees here—–broke records–today it is 40 degrees—–no wonder we get colds!!!!!! šŸ™

Drink lots of liquids——-put Vicks on your feet–& warm socks—–& stay warm & get lots of rest—— there– Cheryl did I sound like your Mother????? šŸ™‚

April the same goes for you too———-both of you take care of your selves—-we want to hear you are both feeling terrific again!!!!!!

  5. I rarely get a cold anymore–I’m not bragging; I think I contracted every kind of cold germ there is in my 37 years of teaching first graders! I swear by Vick Vapor rub. Just slobber some on your nose and neck (and it keeps the cats away; they hate it!) every night and in the morning drink a little glass of V-8. (oh, and wash your hands at every opportunity!–and, as my mother used to tell me:”You never see Queen Elizabeth touching her face” keep your hands away from your mouth)–that’s my cold remedy–vicks & V-8–works for me.

  6. I hope you’ll be feeling better soon. Try taking the herb Echinacea. It won’t do much good for the cold you have now, but it boosts the immune system and can keep you from getting them in the future. I take two a day normally. But on two different occasions this fall, I felt symptoms coming on (tickle in the back of the throat sort of thing) and I took six capsules a day for about five days. In a couple of days the symptoms went away and I never got a full-blown cold. I’m not making this up. You can get echinacea at Wal-mart in the vitamin and supplement section. Well worth it!
    Nyquil just makes me jumpy.
As far as Tiger goes . . . in my many years of being owned by cats, I finally learned that if I started letting them out or feeding them at a certain time, then as far as they are concerned, it’s carved in stone.

  7. 1 tbsp honey
3/4 glass tea (or just hot water)
    2 shots brandy
    1 slice lemon

Brew tea or heat water, fill a tall glass 3/4 full. Mix in honey, then brandy shots. Add lemon slice.

Extra good made with cognac…enjoy as often as you want!

  8. Sure fire cure for the common cold:

Heat a bottle of Dr. Pepper and add:
    1 egg
    1 tsp brewers yeast
    1/4 tsp tabassco
    A sprinkling of alphabet noodles
    A sprig of parsley

Drink slowly. The cold should go away within a few weeks.

  9. Uh, Dave, I’m thinkin’ I’d rather try Kris’s cure.

But my own cure is best of all. LOL (Don’t we all have our cold cures? We must.)

Mine is to take vitamins, drink lots and lots of water (water is the best cough medicine there is.) Eat very healthy, but add chocolate if the body cries out for it. And whine about being sick.

  10. Yes, I think you are right. Whining should be first and foremost and last the duration. Chocolate should be prescription strength. But M & M’s are great medicine.

Thank you for catching that Tom.

  11. Thanks for all the cure suggestions.

I have been whining – and now I feel better. Not 100% yet, but better.

I seldom get sick (because I take my vitamins every day) so it always freaks me out when a cold comes after me.

  12. See? Whining works! I think I’ll write a book on cold cures. That or on Effective Whining.

I’m glad you are feeling better. I’m also glad you don’t get sick often.

Not a good way to start the new year, however, this is when cold season is upon us.

The fact is 2009 is a great year.
