I’ve been meaning to post this – in case any of you haven’t yet voted for the 8 Art Wonders of Kansas and would like to.

A while back, the Kansas Sampler Foundation asked folks to vote for the 8 Wonders of Kansas. Then they did the 8 Architectural Wonders of Kansas.

Now they’re doing the 8 Art Wonders of Kansas. So, here’s the page. Vote away.

You have until midnight on Oct. 15 to cast your vote.

(If you use Internet Explorer, you may have to scroll down on the page. The page seems to show up fine on Firefox.)

Lots of great artists are represented. Some of the art I’ve seen, some things I’d like to see. However, I’m a little disappointed that of the 24 artists/artwork nominated, there’s only ONE writer (Gordon Parks.)

The Kansas Sampler Foundation recognizes 8 elements: Architecture, Art, Commerce, Cuisine, Customs, Geography, History and People.

  1. I think Gordon Parks is in there because of his photography. Perhaps they’ll do something else with writers/written work? There hasn’t been anything for music or performing arts either.

There were quite a few of my favorites in there as well as some things that are new to me and I’d like to look at further. I’ve got to say that I’ve never liked that painting of John Brown. I’ve never cared much for John Brown from what I’ve read of him either, though. The painting does seem to match the image I have from what I’ve read. He seems kinda like a nightmare figure to me.
