June 2008 �On the Porch� Series

Much is in-store this month on the porch of the William Allen White House State Historic Site at 927 Exchange St. The �On the Porch� Series is sponsored by the White Community Partnership which is proud to present White youth biographer, Beverley Buller; cowboy and ranching expert, Jim Hoy and singer/songwriter, Lisa Moritz. The sessions are at 2 PM Sundays beginning June 15.

June 15 � Beverley Buller – �Author on the Porch�
Beverley Buller, a Newton, Kansas middle school librarian, researched, wrote and published the first biography on the Sage of Emporia designed for young readers. Many young people have read the book and can meet the author, ask questions and have their books autographed at this afternoon discussion. Ms. Buller volunteers in support of the W. A. White Children�s Book Award program, the first youth readers� choice award program in the nation.

June 22 � Jim Hoy � �Ranching on the Porch�
Jim Hoy, professor of English at Emporia State University, is the director of the Center for Great Plains Study. Dr. Hoy will discuss the ranching at the turn of the 20th century, 1885 � 1915, a period of time in the Kansas economy that connects to the White story. June 29 � Lisa Moritz � �Songs on the Porch�
Lisa Moritz performs her original songs which are lyrics driven. Words and music, two things William Allen White loved. White was a self-taught musician and enjoyed music all of his life. Ms. Moritz performance is a nod to music in the White home.

The June �On the Porch� Series is free but donations in support of the site are suggested. For the normal fee participants may elect to tour the historic site at the conclusion of the program. The porch is ADA accessible and public restrooms are available in the visitor center. For further information about the porch program series call 620-342-2800 Wednesday through Saturday.
