  1. Does anyone know what year that church was built? I don’t know enough about architecture to pinpoint it. It looks distinctively to be from a certain time in relatively recent history. The 50s or 60s maybe?

  2. I came to Emporia in the fall of 1960 and it was here then. I lived one semester/summer in an apartment house directly east of the church, owned by the Brady’s, I think.

  3. The church was on that site in the Fall of 1957. The firm of Brinkman & Hagan was the architectural firm. The widow of Jerry Brinkman is Alberta who is still a church member & and very active in Republican politics.

  4. I just checked the web site of the First Christian Church of Emporia Kansas. the present building was built in 1956.

  5. The genius of the church siting is that it is on axis with Market St. and no one knows it today. Market is one-way south today. If you are on Market looking north you will find that the front door of the church is centered on Market St.

It was probably built when the street was two-way.
