On Saturday, lots of kids, eight to nine hundred of them, marched from the ESU campus seven blocks to the W.L. White Auditorium for the William Allen White Children’s Book Awards Ceremony.

As always, it was a noisy bunch.

Children from all over the state voted and children from all over the state showed up in Emporia on Saturday. Some – from Western Kansas – had an 8-hour bus trip on Friday and spent the night on the floor at the rec center.

I saw kids from Holcolmb, Deerfield, Wescan, Baldwin, Victoria, Mt. Hope, Lansing and Valley Center – just to name a few towns represented.

Quite a few kids came from Jefferson West in Jefferson County.

  1. I hope many of these children come back with their parents & family members to take another look at Emporia & spend more time in Emporia & revisit places they saw on their trip to Emporia!
Most of these children will never forget this trip they made to Emporia over the week end!
Our future leaders were here & visited!!!!!!!!!!

  2. This is a lovely promotional event for ESU.

If someone visits ESU as a kid, has a good time, he or she is likely to consider this place when it’s time for college.
