Roger Heineken listens as Lacey Whetstone fields a question from the audience in today’s “History on the Porch” at the William Allen White House in Emporia. Lacey is a graduate student in history at ESU.

She talked about William Allen White’s opposition to the Ku Klux Klan when it entered Kansas in the early 1920s. The Klan was why White ran in the 1924 Gubernatorial race. (He finished third in the election.)

The “On the Porch” series will continue next Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m., with “Poetry on the Porch” featuring Dr. Kevin Rabas of ESU’s creative writing department and other local poets.
