Columbus is the county seat of Cherokee County. Let’s see, Christopher Columbus was headed for the West (?) Indies … and he found Cherokee County. Pretty close.
This is the south-eastern-most county in Kansas. It’s down there in the corner, kissing both Missouri and Oklahoma.
