Mid-May in Colorado. This road was closed higher up, due to 10′ of snow covering the road.

This was about at 9,000 ft. We didn’t get above timberline. For me, that’s where the magic of the Rockies is – way up there. I love Rocky Mountain National Park. Maybe that’s because it was my first introduction to mountains, real mountains. I think I was 11 when I first saw Colorado – and I was b-l-o-w-n a-w-a-y.

This is some heavy-duty snow-moving equipment.

  1. I wish I was an oil painter. I’d paint that tire with the chains, just as you have it. That’d look neat in oils, sort of as an impressionistic painting. I can see it in my head, but I’d never be able to get it down on canvas.
