Three years ago today (June 25, 2004), Dave and I began the Flyover People website. Dave is the computer genius behind FOP. He built the site and then patiently taught me how to add text and photos and additional pages.

Three years. Hundreds thousands of photos. Hundreds thousands of posts. Thousands of miles on the car.

As I was taking a shower just now, I thought about how the best part of the blogging and the website has been hearing from you guys.

There are the regulars who comment here and on the discussion board, many of whom are local and I’ve met in person. They have become treasured friends.

Comments come from folks around the state, around the country, around the world.

I sometimes hear from Weatherman in New Mexico, Rita in NW Kansas, Milt in Pratt, Weeta in Virginia, Peg in Ellsworth, The Wayward Son in San Francisco. Ray, the writer, is a regular from Indianapolis.

Brad occasionally writes from Afghanistan.

And then there’s that witty englishbloke, Simon, my favourite Brit.

Some people post comments here, others send e-mails. I hear from Kansans and Virginians, Louisianans and Minnesotans. People write from Oregon and Texas and Florida. Arkansas, Alaska, Utah. New York, California, Maine, D.C. and Colorado. Missouri, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Arizona.

Over the years, I’ve heard from many ex-pat Kansans, people who miss the state and dance with delight when they see Dave’s landscapes in the Galleries.

Just the other day an e-mail came from a woman in Illinois who hosts a Kansas Day party every year – puts on her Free State Brewery t-shirt and too-tight ruby slippers and invites friends over for games and sunflower cake.

So – the best part about the website is YOU. Thanks for your comments and encouragement these past three years. Every e-mail, every comment has been valued and appreciated.

You know how you have to “force” an opinion out of me!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  4. Congratulations on three great years! I always start my work morning reading about happenings in and around Emporia and the surrounding areas. Keep up the great work! I’d sure miss it if you ever quit.

  5. NEVER even slightly suggest “quit!” –or, at least, wait until I’ve died…..
I love FOP! I love the people and Cheryl & Dave and I even love reading blogs that I don’t necessarily agree with….and I’m sure not everyone agrees with things I write, since I tend to be liberal,–well, I consider myself a conservative person, too, but, hey! I’m a teacher and I want everyone to have great opportunities, great health-care, great schools, a safe place to live…..okay, I’ll shut up…..for now.
THANK YOU, Cheryl & Dave and all you FOP (see, I can’t shut up!) people for enriching my life!

  6. Congratulations! Three years – well I’m just a newcomer, but I enjoy FOP a lot. In fact I now don’t consider the day complete until I check in and see what’s going on. Thank you!

  7. And I couldn’t thank you enough for all you’ve done to help me enrich my life. You are such great friends and I am so fortunate to have found you all. Thanks Cheryl and Dave and thanks Roger for ” turning me on” to this site.

  8. Getting in a bit late today, but congratulations on your Blog-o-versary.
Just think, three years ago there may have been some who thought it would never fly, but Flyover it has.
I’m glad I found the site and appreciate all the opportunities to hear about and see photos of my native state. FOP is a treasure trove of information, education, entertainment, and fun.
I’m looking forward to meeting as many FOPers as possible in the not-so- distant future.

  9. I joined July 12, 2004. I’ve done 2,525 posts. I too am very grateful to Cheryl and Dave for this place. There’ve been plenty of times I’ve awakened in the wee hours and checked in here. It’s a comfortable place to visit. In fact, I moved it up to the top of my “favorites” so it’s the first place I check when I log onto the computer each day.

    Thanks, Janet

  10. Cheryl, your blog has become a favorite of mine. The pictures, the words and the thoughts are in perfect harmony. Congratulations and I look forward to many more to come. Thanks.

  11. Thank you, Every One! That’s what makes Flyover People such a pleasant adventure – your appreciation, kind words, and reading your thoughts on various topics.

You often hear people say, “I’d do it whether I got paid or not.”

    That’s the case here.
