OK, so last night I was talking to my writing friend, Tracy (who, by the way, has just had a piece of fiction accepted for a magazine!) about writing and stuff.

And, we talked about cats.

Long ago, Tracy had a cat that disappeared. Two years later, TWO YEARS LATER, it walked in the house like it had never been gone.

So, Tracy’s cat is home … time passes and someone who lived a couple miles away came to Tracy’s house and said, “There’s my cat!” The cat had lived with this other person for those two years.

Now there are a hundred things that could have happened to Tiger. She could have jumped into the open window of a car (a very Tiger thing to do) and she could be in South Texas by now. A dog could’ve gotten her. Maybe she was hit and killed by a car. Perhaps she wandered too far away and is lost.

Or – she could be voluntarily, of her own free will, living in the home of someone who is taking good care of her.

And, since we have no proof otherwise, that’s what I’m going to believe. I don’t know that it serves us well to think of all the ways she could have suffered or is suffering.

And maybe, maybe, she’ll come back home.

You know how parents often tell their kids that an animal goes to live “on a farm” where it will be happier? Well, I’m telling myself that story.

  1. I stopped at the animal shelter over my lunch hour, just in case. The lady who watches the “shop” is friendly and caring, and has been keeping an eye out for the Tiger. Close by, behind a wall with a large glass window, are cages with adoptable cats. The little beggars are beside themselves when I enter the room, rubbing the front of the cage, mewing and purring. There is a young female that who resembles Tiger, and is probably pregnant. Also, in cages below her, are some really beautiful male cats, gray tabby stripped, a silver, a white and a yellow. If you love cats like we do it’s hard to leave that room without bringing them home.

  2. Once upon a time, a cat named Tiger was lured by her evil twin to the dark side. When Tiger learned (or re-learned) to trust the FORCE, she “destroyed” her evil twin, triumphed over the FORCE, and returned home to the open arms of the people who loved her.
She, of course, never told them the details of her adventure. The End.

  3. Cats do weird things – that’s why they’re cats, not dogs. My bro’s cat went missing – did I not tell you this? – and there was much anguish. Turned out it was living with a near neighbour who provided tastier food. It still turns up sometimes and sort of beams in a sneery way, then takes off again. The Tiger may have a similar plan.

What do I know – Helianthus43 may have a far better understanding of it all. Thing is with cats: they don’t go til they’re ready.

I could tell you why, but I’m not allowed to.

    A worrying time, nonetheless.

  4. When I was a kid, our cat moved down the street to someone else’s house. Go figure why. When we lived in S. Calif our Siamese used to go a couple doors down. They’d let him in, feed him, let him back out. He disappeared for a week or so one time, then showed up. We figure they were trying to keep him inside, but he got back out and came home. Frank the Cat who we have now gets out once in a while and usually hangs right around. But one time Larry found him across the street and down the alley, sunbathing on someone else’s porch.

When a cat just simply totally disappears, I tend to believe that he or she was picked up by someone and is living in someone else’s house, unable to get outside. If Tiger escapes, she’ll come home.

  5. I believe Tiger will come home—but will NOT be silent about it’s many exciting experiences———as that cat knows it’s owner is a writer———That cat will have stories that Cheryl will win awards from writing about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    You just wait & see————

Dave ———I have “sucker” written on my forehead———-we needed barn cats——well long -long story-but a woman called & had a pregnant cat that the owner could not keep——–well she was to be “a barn cat”—–but she & her three kittens are doing extremely well in our basement!!!!!!!!

She doesn’t like dry food———-so I buy her canned food——-& the most expensive brand is her favorite———-& found out both hubby & I had both been feeding her a can a day———–well she is down to one can a day now & all the dry food she wants———–she had three kittens -one orange–one grey & one all black——–they have their eyes open now—–& are sooooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the barn cats are living in the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. PS———-if it comes over you & you can’t control it———when the babies are weaning age———-if you want one———you are welcome to one of our “barn kittens” -that live in the basement!!!!!!!
They will be litter trained———but will probably favor canned food over dryed!!!!!!
    I’ll take pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. It’s hard not to walk out of the dog pound without a dog or cat in tow. After that poodle though, we’ve learned our lesson. We were real suckers to take him in! Poor old dog. He’s gone now. After spending a few hundred dollars on him, we decided to have him put down. That’s what his original owner should have done rather than turn him in to the pound.

He had congestive heart failure, and I believe he had some kind of kidney problems, and he had these terrible spells where his body would sort of seize up and he’d walk around in circles in slow motion until it passed. He had pain as well.

We did make him somewhat better, but we finally decided that he was a lost cause and had him put down to end his suffering. That was enough pound dog for us for now. Maybe someday we’ll get suckered into taking another poor little lost furry critter in, but we’re pretty much hoping not.

  8. Maybe——Tiger has gone to live with a little girl somewhere who prayed for a cat!!!!!!!———

    THE PASTOR’S CAT

This particular story just made me laugh. Every time I think about it, the vision of that poor cat just amuses me no end. Hope the story leaves a bright spot in your day. Whoever said the Creator doesn’t have a sense of
    humor?

A man from our church recently told a true story about the pastor of his church. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed and offered warm milk, but the kitty would not come down.

The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until
the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten.

That’s what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little
further forward, the rope broke. The tree went “boing!” and the kitten instantly sailed through the air -out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they’d seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, “Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping,” and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, “Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?”

She replied, “You won’t believe this,” and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, “Well, if God gives you a cat, I’ll let you keep it.”

She told the pastor, “I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won’t believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her.”

Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor!
