Emporia’s William Allen White is one of four statues on the second floor rotunda at the Kansas Capitol. The others are Eisenhower (as a General), Amelia Earhart, and Arthur Capper. It was difficult to find a good angle to take a picture of WAW because of his portliness. Most angles just accented his big belly.
Larry Mills, Capitol Tour guide, pointed out the boy in two of Lumen Martin Winter’s murals. The boy is meant to resemble Winter himself. Here the boy is working with the threashers and in another mural he’s near the schoolhouse.
Cheryl, do you remember who sculpted the White statue?
No, I don’t. Would you like to tell us?
I remember reading about the commission back in the ’80s, I think, but don’t remember. I’ll try to research it.
Not yet, but here is another image.

Peter F. “Fritz” Felton, Jr. of Hays executed all four sculptures which were installed in 1981. Each weighs about 2000 pounds.
Oops! Felten is the correct spelling.
