Howdy, Internet Friends.

Sent off next week’s column today. Between that and some other stuff that has kept me overwhelmed this week, I’ve not done much here besides plug in a photo every day.

So – what’s going on? Right now, KU is playing Southern Illinois University. Yikes, and we’re behind, 30-27. Rut-row. And I was looking at the maroon SIU basketball jerseys (jerseys? tank tops? shirts? – it’s been a long week) and the SIU tops say “Saluki.” Well, I couldn’t get those guys to stand still for long enough to read the word, so I looked up SIU on the Internet to find out what their mascot is. What the heck IS a Saluki? (SIU fans are probably asking ‘what the heck is a Jayhawk?’) Anyway, a Saluki is this.

They used to be called the Maroons, so I guess that’s a move up.

I love the Bud Light commercial where the man and the woman are in the car and the guy wants to pick up a hitchhiker because he has Bud Light. If ya wanna see it, here’s the video.

The neighbors across the street have had pizza delivered three (3) times this week. I’m not being a nosy neighbor, merely observing – my writing desk looks out on the street. (In case you’re wondering… Pizza Hut 2X, Papa John’s 1X.)

Menu Pet Foods of Emporia has been the center of a pet food recall. Don’t feed your dogs and cats wet food! Check the list. This recall covers something like 51 53 dog food/42 cat foodbrands.

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar restaurant chain based in Overland Park announced the closing of 24 stores. Tonight’s Gazette indicates that Emporia’s Applebee’s is “safe.” (Maybe I’ve watched too much American Idol.)

Also in the news – Kansas is gonna get a 650′ tornado tower. Way cool. It will be at Edwardsville in Wyandotte County.

From the Topeka Capital-Journal:

The tower, topped by a 350-foot antenna that would bring its total height to 1,000 feet, would be built just across Interstate 70 from Kansas Speedway. Current plans show the tower built of reinforced concrete surrounded by a funnel-shaped steel wrapping. Read the whole story. (Well, you can read it if you’ve registered with the Cap-Journal, but it’s free and they never send you junk mail.)

  1. You watch American Idol! I never have until this year and I have a near perfect record. It is really getting good now with a number of very good vocalists. I hope about five tie at the end.
