In all my years as a citizen of the Great State of Kansas, I had never observed the Legislature in action. Today I caught a glimpse of the activity – the shaping of bills, discussions, motions to concur, motions to non-concur, votes.

I shadowed Don Hill in the Kansas House. He was a gracious host and introduced me to those he stopped to visit with, so I had a chance to meet legislators from across the state – from Ingalls to Pretty Prairie to Overland Park.

Of the 125 members of the House, the party split works out to be about 78 Republicans and 47 Democrats. Hill defines himself as a moderate Republican.

  1. We need more persons in the legislature like Don Hill. He is someone who will listen to your concerns–and answers the questions correctly!–and does it with a sense of humor. I would vote for him if I could and since I can’t, I donated to his re-election, made about 200 phone calls for him and probably just made a nuisance of myself encouraging others to vote for him! He is one of the “good” guys!
